The Association for Popular Music Education is pleased to announce a call for participation for our 2022 conference, which will be held at the Detroit Institute for Music Education in Detroit, MI from June 1–4, 2022. The 2022 APME conference will be held in-person and virtually in a hybrid setting.
Popular music has the power to reach and inspire students. It plays a strong role in identity, social development, and empowerment. Students use popular music to express their emotions and views of an ever changing world. However, popular music education has not always been responsive to issues of social justice, access, and economic inequities. In light of these challenges and opportunities, the 2022 APME conference will offer and create spaces for dialogue and critical reflection through presentations, discussions, and performances that give participants actionable ideas and inspiration to take back to their communities to enact change in their own spaces.

Performances: APME LIVE! Student Festival
Performing groups or individual artists from, or interested in, any and all educational settings across age/grade levels are encouraged to apply. There is a separate application for performances. See main conference page.

The Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Detroit is available June 1-4. Reservations must be booked by May 11, 2022, to secure the discounted rate.
